Track and Field Coach Bios

Head Coach: Danny Kung

Coach Kung enters his 5th year with the program and second year as head coach specializing in the hurdles, sprints and relays. Throughout his 14 years of coaching, he has coached numerous CIF-SDS individual champions and state qualifiers as well as winning 2 CIF-SDS Div. II Team Champions at La Jolla High (One with the boys and one with the girls). He has helped Sage Creek build a reputation for great long sprinters, hurdlers and relay teams along with helping lead the boy’s team to their first track & field league championship. He hopes to continue building up the reputation of excellence as a full track and field program in San Diego.

Assistant Coach: Jacob Feiring

Coach Feiring enters his 6th season as the distance track coach for Sage Creek. In 2018, he helped lead the boy’s team to their first track & field league championship. In cross country he has led the boy’s and girl’s teams to a combined six CIF San Diego Section Championships and four CIF State podium finishes including one State Championship on the girl’s team. In 2016, Coach Feiring was named SoCal Boy’s Cross Country Coach of the Year, and in 2018 he was named SoCal Girl’s Cross Country Coach of the Year.

Assistant Coach: Jason Black

Coach Jason Black enters his 2nd year with the program as an assistant coach specializing in the pole vault.  He has helped revive the pole vault program after having no vaulting program from 2015-2017.  He sent Sage Creek’s first athlete in the pole vault to the CIF-SDS championships last year and we are excited to see the program continue to grow.

Assistant Coach: Kassie Betts

Coach Kassie Betts enters her 2nd year as an Assistant coach specializing in the High Jump. She is a graduate of the University of Ottawa in Canada where she was a member of the Track & Field team specializing in heptathlon. She went on to compete for Leamington C&AC in England where she won gold in the Midlands Combined Events Championship. She has done a phenomenal in building up the group of high jumpers from last year and will continue to help develop their skills sets.  

Assistant Coach: Brooke Whitburn

Coach Brooke Whitburn enters her 1st year as an assistant jumps coach.  She comes to us from Chico State where she was a Div II. All-American in the heptathlon and the Long Jump and is currently training with the US Skeleton Team in hopes of making the 2020 Olympic winter games. She is excited to start her coaching career with the Bobcats and help develop a deeper jump program.
