Reflections Art Program

The 2018-2019 Reflections program theme will be "Heroes Around Me."

-- More details coming soon --

All Sage Creek students are invited to participate in Reflections -

it's as easy as 1-2-3!

Create an Original Work

Only new and original works inspired by the selected Reflections theme will be accepted.  Enter in one or more of the following arts categories.

  • Dance Choreography
  • Film Production
  • Literature
  • Music Composition
  • Photography
  • Visual Arts

Submit Your Entry

Follow the Sage Creek PTSA deadlines and instructions on how to enter.

Your submission must include a completed and signed Student Entry Form and complete Artist Statement.

In your artist statement, tell us about your work and what it means to you.

  • How does your work relate to the theme?
  • What is your personal connection to the theme?
  • What did you use to create your work (e.g. supplies, technology, instrumentation, props, etc.)?
  • What/Who was your inspiration?

Judging Criteria

Volunteer arts and education experts review submissions without knowledge of the entrants’ identity. Judges look for personal interpretations on the program theme that best exemplify creativity and technical skill.

  • Interpretation: How closely the piece relates to the theme, based on the artwork itself and the artist statement.
  • Creativity: How creative and original the piece is in its conception of the theme and its presentation.
  • Technique: The level of skill demonstrated in the basic principles/techniques of the arts area.

Recognition Awards

  • All participating students will be recognized by the SCHS PTSA for entry submissions.
  • Top awarded entries will represent the SCHS PTSA at the Council and District PTA levels.
  • Winning entries at the Council/District levels advance to the California State level.
  • Student entries will be reviewed primarily on how well the student uses his or her artistic vision to portray the theme, originality and creativity. Entries are reviewed at the local unit, council, and district levels before advancing to state and national levels.
  • Sage Creek PTSA award recipients will be notified at the end of October.
  • Carlsbad Unified Council PTA award recipients will be notified in November
  • Ninth District PTA award recipients will be notified in December.
  • National award recipients will be notified via email by National PTA, typically in May. The PTSA in its sole discretion will select finalists for exhibition and provide awards/prizes.
